Bio
Dr Duart holds a doctorate in Pedagogy from Ramon Llull University (URL), Barcelona, and a Master in Business Administration from ESADE Business School, Barcelona. He qualified from the University of Barcelona (UB) with a bachelor’s degree in History and a teaching qualification.
He is former Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Lifelong Learning, and director of the International Graduate Institute at the UOC (01/2007-08/2013). UOC is a benchmark online university, internationally recognised for quality e-learning, and Dr Duart has played an active role in the development of its educational model, which makes intensive use of information and communication technologies (ICTs). He is a lecturer and expert in Education and Technology field (e-learning).
As a researcher specialising in e-learning and educational organisation, he leads and collaborates on research projects in areas such as educational policy, higher education leadership and ICT use. He has published several books, including Aprender en la virtualidad (“Learning in virtuality”, 2000) and La universidad en la sociedad red (“Universities in the network society”, 2008), and a range of co-authored articles in specialist journals (British Journal of Educational Technology, Higher Education, etc.). He has also given lectures on ICTs in higher education at international conferences and European, American and Australian universities.
In recent years, he has been a visiting lecturer at several universities in Latin America, including the University of Guadalajara (UdeG), the University of Veracruz (UV) and the National Autonomous University (UNAM) in Mexico, the University of the Andes and the University of Antioquia (UdeA) in Colombia, and the Private Technical University of Loja (UTPL) in Ecuador. He has also been a visiting lecturer at the University of New England (UNE) in Australia.
He was the founder and director of the UOC UNESCO Chair in e-Learning (2002-2009) and academic director of the I International Seminar “Leading Universities in the Knowledge Society”. He is the editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education (ETHE) ethe.uoc.edu.
He has been a consultant to ANECA (Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation), providing advice on the definition of assessment guidelines for educational programmes delivered in blended-learning and e-learning modes. He has also advised various bodies, both national (such as the Colombian Ministry of Education and FUNGLODE in the Dominican Republic) and international, on matters of online educational organisation, policy and assessment. He participates in different accreditation processes for different HE Quality Assurance Agencies like KAA (Kosovo) and CENAI (Colombia). He has conducted numerous programme assessments for higher education institutions, most recently for the National Pedagogic University (UPN) in Mexico (2012).
