Bio
In my professional career I have combined my activity in the private sector with teaching and research at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, where I have been working part-time since 1999.
I have developed my research activity in the modelling of thermal systems, more specifically, thermal installations corresponding to heated swimming pools, which have a high energy demand. The models developed have provided detailed knowledge of the mechanisms that generate the demand and the factors that influence it. They have been used to improve the integration of the use of renewable sources in this type of system.
I have also modelled the impact that intelligent predictive controls would have on the reduction in energy consumption when solar thermal installations are integrated into high inertia systems, such as heated swimming pools. This allows a better use of solar thermal energy in this type of installation.
The result of these studies is my doctoral thesis entitled: "Energy analysis of a heated swimming pool assisted with renewable energies, by means of dynamic modelling, for a better integration of solar thermal energy and biomass". To do this, I completely sensorised a municipal swimming pool to analyse its behaviour and validate the models used.
Similarly, the models developed have allowed us to analyse the impact on demand of saline chlorination systems compared to more conventional systems based on chemical chlorination.
I am an expert evaluator for the European Commission, having participated in different panels corresponding to the Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe and Eureka Eurostars programmes, in the fields of solar thermal energy and energy efficiency in buildings. All this from 2014 to the present day. I have also been technical coordinator of the regional energy agency of the region of Murcia for more than 11 years and currently leads an energy consultancy team in the private sector.
I have participated in the drafting and implementation of European projects that have obtained funding (LIFE CITYAdaP3) and in the implementation of the LIFE Adaptate and Compete4SECAP project (H2020).
I have participated in the development of training materials and programmes for municipal technicians at national level on how to plan for climate neutrality in 2030 at local level. A total of 492 technicians from two municipalities were trained. The training has also been developed for 11 municipal and regional technicians from Croatia and Serbia.
