Bio
J. Ignacio Escrig is currently a PhD student under FPU grant in Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (CBM) in María Mittelbrunn’s lab in which he is characterizing age-related subpopulations of T cells in order to develop new treatments to delay the immune system aging. He graduated of Biotechnology (2019) and Pharmacy (2021) by the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (Madrid, Spain) and was awarded with the Optimus award as the best student of the experimental sciences faculty of 2021 promotion. He was in a stay at the Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm) in 2018, as Amgen foundation scholar, where he studied the implication of NK cells in the toxoplasmosis disease. In addition, he was in another stay in 2019 at Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in the University of California San Diego (California, USA) working on pharmacological treatments against neglected parasitic diseases. In 2021 he participated as researcher and data manager in two population studies in collaboration with Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal (Madrid, Spain). The first one studied life quality, disability and settlement with the treatment in rheumatoid arthritis patients and the second one, in which he is still working on, studied life quality in HIV patients that change their retroviral treatment. Before starting the PhD he worked for the Aging Biology group in Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (Madrid, Spain) studying genetic approaches against cellular age-linked diseases such as dyskeratosis congenita. During his first year of PhD he has participated in two reviews related with the lab interests: S. Delgado Pulido, J.I. Escrig Larena y M. Mittelbrunn Senescencia de linfocitos T: la nueva diana terapéutica contra el envejecimiento (2022, Anales de la RANM) and G. Soto-Heredero et al. Extremely differentiated T cell subsets contribute to tissue deterioration during aging (2023, Annual Reviews of Immunology).
Besides the PhD, he is currently finishing a complementary training of philosophy and humanities through the Humanities Master of Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (Madrid, Spain) and coordinates two community welfare groups associated with the same university. One of them is focused in giving humanistic formation to young persons and the second one is focused in giving food, clothes and accompaniment to people who live in the streets of Madrid.
