Bio
Dr. Gil's research interest in Physics is mainly centred in polarization optics.
From the experimental point of view, Dr. Gil has designed absolute automatic PCSCA Mueller polarimeters based on rotating waveplates which are currently used in several laboratories of Optics. The first original version was built in 1979.
From a theoretical point of view he is author of some relevant contributions concerning the physical properties of the material media with respect to the transformation of polarized light, as well as the characterization of the polarimetric purity of n-dimensional systems under the scope of a unified polarimetric algebra. These mentioned works deal with subjects such as:
A purity (nondepolarizing) criterion for Mueller matrices.
The definition of physical quantities characterizing the polarizing and depolarizing power of a medium: indices and components of polarimetric purity, depolarization index.
Polar and general decomposition of pure systems (serial decompositions).
Parallel decomposition of depolarizing systems: Arbitrary and characteristic decompositions.
Polarimetric subtraction of Mueller matrices and Stokes vectors.
Complete characterization of 3D polarized electromagnietic waves: 3D Indices of Purity and 3D components of purity. Intrinsic Stokes parameters
Characterization of the statistical purity of a physical system characterized by an nxn coherency (or density) matrix. nD indices o purity.
Physical invariants of a Mueller matrix. Arrow form of a Mueller matrix.
