个人简介
Dr. Appolinario is Professor of the Post-Graduation Program of the Institute of Psychiatry in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He received his medical degree from the Medical School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and completed his Residency in general psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry from same university. He concluded his master’s degree and Ph. D. in Health Sciences at the Post-Graduation Program of the Institute of Psychiatry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. During a post-doctoral fellowship he moved to the Social Medicine Institute at the State University of Rio de Janeiro and developed a collaborative work in the field of epidemiology of obesity and eating disorders.
Dr. Appolinario research interest includes the areas of eating disorders, obesity and depression, with a particular interest in clinical research, epidemiology and treatment of eating and weight disorders. Of note, he conducted some seminal clinical trials in binge eating disorder. In the field of depressive disorders, he is currently participating in some research projects with treatment resistant depression. Dr. Appolinario is on a number editorial boards of prestigious periodicals such as “Eating and Weight Disorders”, “Journal of Eating Disorders”, “Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry”. He is Editor-in-Chief of “Jornal Brasileiro de Psiquiatria” and is a reviewer for numerous national and international scientific journals. He has published in peer-reviewed journals nearly 100 papers; and has contributed to several book chapters. He speaks regularly at local, national and international scientific meetings about his research; and also teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
He created and leads the Obesity and Eating Disorders Group (GOTA) in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro since its creation in 1992. Over the years GOTA has gained a growing relevance in the field of eating disorders/obesity, delivering health care and developing several research projects. GOTA has been recognized as a reference center of research, training and assistance in Brazil, with a growing international visibility. Since 2015, Dr. Appolinario created together with Prof. Antonio E Nardi the Treatment Resistant Depression Outpatient Clinic (DERETRAT), a unit dedicated to the research and treatment of patients with this condition.
