个人简介
José Pedro Sousa is an architect graduated from the FAUP (Porto), Master in Genetic Architectures from the ESARQ-UIC (Barcelona) and PhD in Architecture from the IST-UTL (Lisbon). During his education, he was also a Special Student at the MIT (Cambridge, MA) and a Visiting Scholar at the UPenn (Philadelphia, PA).
Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at FAUP teaching the "Geometry and Architecture" and "Constructive Geometry" courses. At FAUP, he also created and directs the DFL, Digital Fabrication Lab, which is a research group dedicated to explore the impact of computational design, digital fabrication and robotic technologies in architectural design thinking and practice. Before FAUP, he taught at the FCTUC (Coimbra), ESARQ-UIC (Barcelona) and IAAC (Barcelona). On March 2021 he was elected as a member of the High-Level Roundtable and Community Embassador of the New European Bauhaus
By combining the realms of teaching, research and practice, his professional activity has explored the new conceptual and material opportunities emerging from the use of digital technologies in architecture. In the last years, his research interests have been focused in computational constructive geometry, robotic fabrication and material innovation, with a special attention to rethinking the use of traditional materials, like cork. Among other distinctions, he received the 2005 FEIDAD Award (2005) with his later practice ReD, and, in the academia, the Young Research Award from the University of Lisbon (2009) and the Pedagogic Innovation Award from the University of Porto (2017 and 2018).
