Bio
Dr. Joonas Lahtinen (* 1984, A/FIN) is a Vienna-based performance scholar, performance and installation artist, and Lecturer-Researcher in Art and Education at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. He has studied Theatre Research at the University of Helsinki (BA 2007, MA 2010, PhD 2021) and Performance at Queen Mary, University of London (MA 2009). Joonas has published numerous theatre research and popular articles in Finnish and English. He has cooperated with institutions such as the Finnish National Gallery/Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art/Kiasma Theatre, brut Wien, and WUK performing arts Vienna, and with festivals such as imagetanz Vienna, Freischwimmer-Festival (DE/A/CH), SOHO in Ottakring Vienna, URB Urban Arts Festival Helsinki, HomeFest Bucharest, and STAGE Helsinki Theatre Festival.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Live Art/performance art, performance analysis, participatory art, installation art, practice-as-research, problematic of "political art”, visual culture, performance and feminism, performance and identity construction, continental philosophy and critical theory, performance and urban experience
PHD PROJECT:
MAKING SENSE OF PERCEPTION AND POWER IN PARTICIPATORY PERFORMANCE.
