Jonathan Michael Spector received the Ph.D. degree in philosophy from The University of Texas at Austin. He was the Associate Director of the Learning Systems Institute and a Professor of instructional systems with Florida State University. He was a Professor of educational psychology and instructional technology with the University of Georgia. He was the Chair of Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation with Syracuse University and was the Director of the Educational Information Science and Technology Research Program with the University of Bergen. He is currently a Professor of learning technologies with the University of North Texas. His research focuses on intelligent support for instructional design, assessing learning in complex domains, and technology integration in education. He served on the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction as the Executive Vice President; he was a President of the Association for Educational and Communications Technology; he is an active member of the American Educational Research Association and several other professional associations. He was an Editor of the Educational Technology Research and Development for 15 years and serves on numerous editorial boards. He edited the third and fourth editions of the Handbook of Research on Educational Communications and Technology and The Encyclopedia of Educational Technology, and has more than 180 publications to his credit.
