Bio
John R. Weeks received the B.A. degree in sociology and the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in demography all from the University of California, Berkeley, CA, USA, in 1966, 1969, and 1972, respectively.
He has been a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Geography and Director of the International Population Center, San Diego State University, San Diego, CA, USA. He is also Clinical Professor of Global Public Health, University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine, Senior Fellow of the California Council on Science and Technology, and Research Associate of the Broom Center for Demography, University of California, Santa Barbara, CA, USA. Prior to moving into the Geography Department in 1992, he was a Professor of Sociology with SDSU, serving as Chair for 7 years. He has authored more than 130 papers and chapters in peer-reviewed journals and books, and has authored or co-authored numerous books, including the best-selling text in the field of population studies, now in its 12th edition.
Prof. Weeks’ research has been funded by grants from private and public sources, including most recently the Andrew Mellon Foundation, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
