Joel Christopher Creed, born in Sidcup, England, on December 2, 1967, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Botany with Marine Botany from the University of Wales Bangor, in 1989, and a Doctor of Ecology from the University of Liverpool, England, in 1993. Professor at UERJ since 1998, he is currently Full Professor; he was Coordinator of the Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development, Ilha Grande, 2000-2001 and Head of the Department of Ecology, 2004-2005. He is a Procientist at UERJ since 1999, a Research Productivity Scholar from CNPq since 2000 and Scientist of our State at FAPERJ since 2015. He has published over 100 scientific articles in national and foreign specialized journals, over 30 books or book chapters, 65 photographs, in addition to other scientific dissemination publications. He supervised over 25 garduate dissertations and theses. He implemented the SeagrassNet Global Seagrass Monitoring Program in Brazil in 2002 and coordinated the PROBIO-MMA RAP Ilha Grande subproject: a biodiversity survey between 2002-2005. He is co-founder of the socio-environmental initiatives Projeto Coral-Sol and Projeto Ecorais. He is leader of the Research Group of the Laboratory of Benthic Marine Ecology-ECOLMAR at CNPq and coordinator of the Coral-Sol Network for Research, Technological Development and Innovation. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Tamoios Ecological Station. His areas of academic interest are experimental ecology, marine biodiversity, the biology and ecology of rocky shores, macroalgae and seagrasses, the influence of human activities on benthic communities and the ecology of marine invasive species.
