Bio
Joanne Motiño Bailey is director of the University of Michigan Nurse-Midwifery Service as well as a Lecturer in the Women’s and Gender Studies Department. She completed a Bachelors of Arts degree in Japanese Language and Literature and was a health care volunteer in Honduras before returning to the University of Michigan for a second career nursing degree and completion of the Nurse-Midwifery and Family Nurse Practitioner master’s programs and a PhD in Nursing with a focus on women’s health. Her dissertation work explored the role of perceived racism and discrimination in cervical cancer risk. She has been director of the Nurse-Midwifery Service for 8 years and her teaching includes a large survey course “Perspectives in Women’s Health”.
