个人简介
João Pedro Martins Coelho obtained his degree in Biology (2001) from the University of Coimbra (UC), during which he was awarded the FCTUC–BPI award for the highest grade-achieving student in Ecology. He continued at UC for the MsC in Ecology (concluded in 2004) and moved to the University of Aveiro (UA) to obtain a PhD in Chemistry (2009). He was awarded two Post-Doc grants, for a total of 9 years (6 years at CESAM/UA and 3 at CIIMAR/UP), interrupted at the end of 2017 after a successful competitive application for a research contract associated with an Integrated Research Program at UA (SmartBioR). The main research focus throughout his career has been the influence of human pressures in transitional aquatic ecosystems, ranging from nutrient and contaminant cycles, bioaccumulation and trophic transfer, population dynamics or the effect of climate change and invasive species on the equilibrium of estuaries and coastal lagoons. Since 2004, he has published 56 peer-reviewed papers in international journals (first author in 15, corresponding author in 18) and 2 book chapter (first and corresponding author). He is actively involved in student training, as main supervisor of seven undergraduate trainees (completed), five MsC students (4 completed) and one PhD student (ongoing). He has also been a member of the Jury in 1 PhD and 3 MsC dissertation defences and one MsC theme defence. Overall, He has participated in eleven research projects/environmental impact studies, and is currently on the research team of 2 nationally funded research projects, focusing on the microplastic-mediated transfer of contaminants to marine trophic webs under climate change (PlasticGlobal - PTDC/MAR-PRO/1851/2014) and the preservation and sustainability of endogenous natural resources under a changing climate (SmartBioR - Centro-01-0145-FEDER-000018). Furthermore, he is currently the Principal Investigator of two interconnected research projects focusing on the use of seagrasses as blue and green infrastructures for the rehabilitation of degraded estuarine ecosystems (RemediGrass - PTDC/CTA-AMB/29647/2017 and ReMoliço - 16-01-04-FMP-0019).
