Bio
João Martinho Moura is a researcher and Portuguese media artist, working with Science and Arts. He has been working in the media arts since 2005, and researching digital art, interfaces, visualization, electronic music, virtual reality, and computational aesthetics. In 2013, in Lisbon, he received the National Multimedia Art and Culture Award for his contribution to the media arts in Portugal. His work has been presented internationally, several times, in more than 18 countries, in some city-wide exhibitions. Author of several publications in media arts, interfaces, and visualization. His work was included in ARS ELECTRONICA Animation Festival (Linz, 2012), Processing curated exhibition (USA, 2008), and ISEA International Symposium on Electronic Art in South Korea (2019), where he was a guest artist. He holds a Master's degree in Technology and Digital Art from the University of Minho. He is a Ph.D. candidate in Science and Technology of the Arts at the School of Arts of the Portuguese Catholic University. He is a founding member of the Artech-International Association and the Artistic Cooperative Au Au Feio Mau. Since 2009 he has been a guest artist at Balleteatro, Porto, collaborating with choreographer Né Barros. Since 2013 he has collaborated, as a media artist, in some international institutions such as ESA - European Space Agency, INL - International Iberian Laboratory of Nanotechnology, NATO - North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and UNESCO. Since 2010 he has been a guest lecturer at some Portuguese Universities in media art, virtual reality, interfaces, and data visualization. He was a member of the committee of Braga's city to the Network of Creative Cities of UNESCO in the Media Arts category. He is a partner artist at Braga Media Arts. In 2018 he was a selected artist at the European Commission's STARTS (EU Science, Technology and Arts) program. He presented his work and research results at INL in Braga, IRCAM - Centro Pompidou, Centquatre in Paris, and Seoul's Art Center Nabi gallery. In 2020 he was selected artist at the MindSpaces program, a European Commission initiative aiming at creating new urban and architectural approaches integrating immersive 'neuroenvironments' into virtual reality. In 2021 he joined the Technology Engineering Group team at INL, collaborating as a Research Engineer in data visualization, virtual and augmented reality, computer vision, digital media, and artificial intelligence.
