Joao Gil

João Gil is Bachelor in Biology (Zoology) and PhD in Biology (Biodiversity) by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (Portugal). His research interests are chiefly focused on the taxonomy, ecology and biology of marine benthic invertebrates, with a special emphasis in Annelida Polychaeta. He is an expert in taxonomy of annelid polychaetes, with more than 20 years of experience in the identification of specimens from worldwide regions, and belonging to all benthic groups of marine polychaetes. His taxonomic activities have been developed for both scientific and monitoring studies, and include working as a taxonomic adviser for public and private institutions. He is currently one of the editors of the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS).
