Bio
João B. R. do Val (M’95) was born in São Paulo
State, Brazil, on January 3, 1955. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from the State University of Campinas,
Campinas, Brazil, in 1977 and 1981, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the Imperial College of Science and
Technology, London, U.K., in 1985, all in electrical engineering. He also received the Diploma of Imperial College in
1985.
In 1978, he joined the School of Electrical Engineering, State University of Campinas, where he is currently a
Professor of control theory. During the years 1996 and 1997, he was a Visiting Scholar at the Decision and Control
Laboratory (Coordinated Science Laboratory), University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. His research interests
include stochastic systems and control, jump processes, filtering, and radar tracking.
