个人简介
Jihoon Min is a Research Scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA). He is affiliated with 'Transformative Institutional and Social Solutions (TISS)' Group and 'Sustainable Service Systems (S3)' Group within 'Energy, Climate, and Environment (ECE)' Program. He has a broader research interest in the linkage between energy use, inequality, and development. He joined IIASA in September 2015. He worked as a part of the project 'Decent Living Energy', where he investigated the implications of accomplishing decent living standards in developing countries on the global energy/emissions pathways. For the project, he worked intensely with MRIO (multi-regional input-output) models to estimate consumption-based final energy footprints incurred by raising standards of living in developing countries. His previous works include quantification of uncertainties in consumption-based footprints, impacts of diet changes on energy and nutrition, empirical analysis setting standards for decent living, and impacts of lowering inequality on climate change.
He is also working on connecting industrial ecological approaches to the IAM (integrated assessment model) and investigating energy and material requirements in future scenarios. He is currently developing MESSAGEix-Materials, which aims to endogenize energy-intensive material production sectors within the MESSAGEix framework.
The topics of his previous research include residential energy consumption modeling, system-wide impact assessment of energy-efficient technologies, and modeling of consumer choices for these technologies. Dr. Min received his doctorate in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University (USA), where he investigated the behavioral aspects of the limited adoption of efficient technologies. He also holds an MESc from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies (USA) and an MS in electrical engineering from Seoul National University (Korea). He has ample industry experience as a senior researcher at LG Electronics and as a senior demand-side analyst at Efficiency 2.0, a start-up where he launched an online tool for home energy/carbon audit with his colleagues, which is adopted by multiple electric utilities nationwide.
