My research interests revolve around the refinements and applications of the famous paleosol CO2 paleobarometer, which utilizes pedogenic carbonates in fossil soils to reconstruct atmospheric CO2 levels in the geologic past. Specific topics include but not restricted to: 1) the quantification of paleosol respiration rate; 2) the formation mechanism of pedogenic carbonate under various climate regimes; 3) carbon isotope fractionation during soil organic matter degradation; 4) the reconstruction of Cenozoic CO2 levels.
