Bio
Jirun Luo (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Sc. degree in radio physics from Nanchang University, Nanchang, China, in 1982, and the M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in electron physics from the Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IECAS), Beijing, China, in 1985 and 2000, respectively.
He became a Senior Engineer, a Research Professor with IECAS, and a Professor with the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, in 1993, 1998, and 2002, respectively. From December 2002 to November 2003, he was with the Institute for Pulsed Power and Microwave Technology, Research Center Karlsruhe (now KIT), Karlsruhe, Germany, where he performed the theoretical model and experimental verification of the microwave heating process of powdered metals. In December 2003, he returned to IECAS. He has authored/coauthored over 300 research papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings. His current research projects are in the development of high-power gyro-oscillators, sheet beam TWTs, and klystrons.
Dr. Luo is an IEEE EDS Vacuum Electronics Technology Committee Member since January 2019, a Senior Member of IEEE since January 2010, and a Teaching Committee Member of Electron Science and Technology, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, since May 2002. He received the Third Class Award from the National Information Science Progress in 1992 and 2005, the Outstanding Achievement Prize for teaching from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences for the academic year 2007–2008, the Excellent Course Awards of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences for the academic years 2008–2009 and 2009–2010, and the Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Prize of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2011.
