ACADEMIC BACKGROUND
Since April (2017): PhD in Sustainable Chemistry, University of Aveiro;
July (2016): Master degree in Biochemistry, specialization in Biomolecular Methods, University of Aveiro;
June (2014): Bachelor´ s degree in Biochemistry, University of Aveiro.
RESEARCH INTERESTS:
Tailored design and preparation of compounds for applications in the healthcare area
• Coordination compounds (metal-organic frameworks, MOFs or coordination polymers) composed by pharmaceutical grade bisphosphonates
and important bone oligo-elements (i.e. calcium), for the treatment of bone diseases.
• Inclusion compounds between cyclodextrins and montelukast, to improve the properties of this active pharmaceutical ingredient used to
manage asthma.
• Following the world initiative on sustainability, when possible, alternative methods for the preparation of such compounds are preferred, such
as: microwave assisted synthesis (for the coordination systems) or solid-state chemistry, in particular the use of mechanochemistry (for the
inclusion compounds).
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Throughout the course of the research activities, a set of distinct skills was acquired
• For the characterization of compounds, ether in the solid or liquid state: expert use of powder X-ray diffraction and scanning electron
microscopy; experience in nuclear magnetic resonance (solid and liquid state), infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and
UV/Vis spectroscopy.
• For the assessment of compounds functional properties: experience in growth, maintenance and cryopreservation of cell cultures, as well as
conventional assays to determine cell viability.
• For data treatment: experience in using software such as Moldraw, PyMOL, Origin, CrystalDiffract, Mercury, ShelXle. Diamond, MestReNova and
GraphPad.
• For data disclosure: experience in using software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), LaTeX, ChemDraw, CorelDraw and
EndNote.
