个人简介
Dr. Jerry Jasinski earned a BS (1964) and MS (1968) in chemistry from the University of New Hampshire. He obtained a second MS (1968) from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts and a PhD in chemistry (1974) from the University of Wyoming. His graduate and post-graduate fellowships include a NATO summer research fellowship (1972) at the Chim Lab IV, University of Copenhagen, Denmark; a pre-doctoral Associated Western Universities (AWU) research fellowship (1973-74) at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory (LASL) in New Mexico; and a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Virginia (1974-75).
After nine years of teaching in secondary schools in the New York and New England region he became an assistant professor of chemistry (1978) at Keene State College in New Hampshire, where he is currently a professor of chemistry. He has served as department chair (2000-2006) and taught over 20 different courses while at Keene State. His main teaching interests have been primarily focused on general chemistry, physical chemistry and X-ray crystallography. He has successfully incorporated POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning) methods of instruction in his general chemistry and physical chemistry courses over the past decade. In addition, he continues to mentor numerous undergraduates in an active research environment using X-ray crystallography and theoretical density functional theory (DFT) calculations to investigate the structure and function of organic, inorganic and pharmaceutically active compounds.
Prof. Jasinski is the coauthor of over 420 research papers in major peer-reviewed scientific journals, and during the past 15 years over 30 of his undergraduate students co-authored 145 of these papers. His international reputation as a coeditor of Acta Crystallographica-Section E, a major online international research journal, has resulted in significant collaborations with faculty and students at numerous colleges and universities in the US, India and globally. Over the past four years Prof. Jasinski has co-authored over 40 papers a year, a phenomenal pace at any institution, and particularly at Keene State College.
His Fulbright-Nehru project will advance the knowledge base of Indian practitioners in the use of single crystal X-ray crystallography as a modern state-of-the-art tool in the determination of molecular structure. Through a series of modules and workshops students and faculty at the University of Mysore and affiliated institutions will gain theoretical and practical knowledge in the application of X-ray crystallographic structure determination to mutual scientific problems of interest. The host institution will benefit from the expertise and training related to one of the most important techniques in structural chemistry. This collaboration will also provide connections that may lead to establishing student and/or faculty exchanges in the future.
