Jérôme Lesueur is a physicist, Professor at Ecole Supérieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielles (ESPCI) in Paris. He is currently the Director of the Institute of Technology and Innovation of PSL.His research deals with electronic transport properties of materials, mostly superconductors.
Starting his career with CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research), he has been working on very fundamental studies about localization, electron-electron interactions and superconductivity in disordered metals. After a sabbatical at Bellcore (NJ-USA), he began studying High Tc Superconducting (HTcS) cuprates, and more specifically the role of disorder in these compounds, and the symmetry of the order parameter through tunneling and Josephson spectroscopy. He is now working on fundamental properties of superconducting two-dimensional electron gases that exist at some oxide interfaces.
He also invented and developed a new technology to make HTcS Josephson Junctions and superconducting circuits working at high frequency. The main applications will be THz detection, high speed electronics, radar systems and single-photon detection. He works in close connection with industrial partners on these subjects.
He is the author of more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Physics, Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, Physical Review Letters, Applied Physics Letters ... He has been invited in dozens of international conferences and workshops. He is an expert for NSF (USA, Israel, Switzerland …), NSERC (Canada), and different French funding agencies. He is referee for the main journals in solid state physics.
He has been successively a member of the CNRS National Committee, the Director of the Physics and Materials Laboratory at ESPCI, and the Dean of Research of ESPCI. He is now the Director of the PSL Institute of Technology and Innovation, which aims at educating graduate students through a multi-disciplinary program, to foster innovation and technological start-up companies creation.
