Bio
Jerome Fleg, M.D., is a Medical Officer at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in Bethesda, MD. After receiving his MD from the University of Cincinnati, he completed training in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Fleg has spent his entire professional career at the National Institutes of Health, first at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and later at NHLBI. His research focused on defining normative aging changes in CV structure and function and their relationship to future disease outcomes, based largely on participants in the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (BLSA). A major focus of his laboratory was the elucidation of age-associated changes in aerobic capacity and its determinants in collaboration with cardiologists and exercise physiologists from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Fleg has focused on designing and implementing multicenter clinical trials in patients with CV disease. He is coeditor of the textbook Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly, now in its 5th edition and an editorial board member of multiple CV journals.
