His main areas of expertise and research are fetal and maternal echocardiography, maternal hemodynamics, cardiac disease in pregnancy, obstetric critical care, placenta accreta spectrum and abdominal cerclages. He accounts for numerous international publications in these fields and is a member of the International Working Group on Maternal Hemodynamics, IS-PAS, Dutch maternal mortality commission, Lowland abdominal cerclage working group and MOET instructor. Through his work he aims to promote the role of maternal echocardiography and maternal POCUS into obstetric care and women’s health. By his involvement in fetal and maternal (congenital) heart disease, he forms a link between pediatric and adult congenital cardiologist at the Erasmus MC congenital heart center. He supports a life-cycle approach (from fetus to elderly women) to women’s cardiovascular health and the role of ultrasound as a non-invasive tool for this purpose.
