Bio
Dr. Jayanthe Rajapaksa is a Senior Professor in Parasitology and Professor and Chair, Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He has been active in the area of infectious and parasitic diseases, vaccinology and vector borne diseases in food-animal species, companion animal species and human. He has also engaged with control of parasitic diseases of poultry and small ruminant farming in rural villages of Sri Lanka to uplift economical stats of middle-income families and to improve food security of this island nation. Dr. Rajapakse has published over 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts, trained and supervised 8 PhD, 29 MPhil, and 58 MSc graduate students during his tenure at the University of Peradeniya. He has received numerous grants from national and international granting agencies such as National Research Council, (NRC-Sri Lanka), National Science Foundation (NSF-Sri Lanka), Council of Agriculture Research Policy (CARP-Sri Lanka), International Science Foundation (IFS, Sweden), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA-Vienna, Austria), Supporting Evidence-based Interventions (The University of EdinburghRoyal (DIck) School of Veterinary Studies SEBI) SEBI-University of Glasgow), to improve infrastructure of his laboratory at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and to train his graduate students. Dr. Rajapakse has received over SRs 114 million and 529,114 Euro to conduct his research program during last 10 years. He has been a leading researcher in the field of veterinary medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka; in order to recognize his continuous research accomplishments by the Sri Lankan government, he has been awarded with the Presidential Research Award every year since 1987. This is a prestigious award by the office of the President of Sri Lanka to recognise outstanding contributions of Sri Lankan researchers engage with applied research to improve animal and human health. He was invited by Kochi Medical School, Japan, Department of Infectious and Immunity, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, Centre for Disease Control (CDC), Atlanta, USA, Department of Veterinary Science, University of Osaka, Japan and University of Hobbiton, New Zealand as a visiting professor to further develop his research endeavours.
