个人简介
Highly motivated mental health professional looking to move into a research related position. Work experience, undergraduate coursework, and extracurriculars focused on a combination of research and mental health care experience. Currently research is the more desirable route.
As a psychology major and biology minor, I practiced scientific writing, recording and analyzing data, and various specialized lab protocols throughout my coursework. Specific experiments include an original meta-analysis on social support and psychological well-being in transgender individuals, analysis of the biochemical properties of beach evening primrose rhizobacteria, and analysis of the antibacterial/sedative properties of varied ginger concentrations. Additionally, I have become skilled at utilizing SPSS and Excel for statistical analyses, using both throughout my courses.
Furthermore, careful and precise data tracking skills have been bolstered by my current position as a behavior technician. A primary duty of this position is recording data on various behaviors and educational benchmarks for children with autism spectrum disorder, while simultaneously monitoring the child’s behaviors and conducting educational programs.
My current direction was largely motivated by a cognitive neuroscience course, in which I learned about the history and how to analyze the data of various neuroscience methodologies (e.g., fMRIs and EEGs). I developed a passion for the subject, and learned how to better articulate my interest with presentations on topics, such as concussions and their relationship both with PTSD risk factors in rats, and PTSD-like symptoms in athletes (e.g., “flashbacks”). Moreover, I've practiced research in labs, in an internship for Transitions Mental Health Association, and in a competitive LMU research program (Research Learning Community, or RSL). The combination of these experiences, as well as my father being a psychology professor, have inspired me to pursue a neuroscience research career in the future.
I firmly believe neuroscience is the best tool to legitimize and improve the efficacy of psychotherapies. Thus, I aspire to someday conduct research on music therapy and other psychotherapy approaches using neuroscientific techniques.
