Dr Oliver is a public health researcher with a strong interest in infectious disease epidemiology. She works as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Coordinator on the Optimise Study, based at The Doherty Institute, University of Melbourne.
Dr Oliver previously worked as Coordinator on the Beating Buruli in Victoria project, based jointly at the University of Melbourne and the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services. She also works at Murdoch Children's Research Institute investigating the epidemiology of streptococcal infections and rheumatic heart disease in Australia. She has long advocated for improved surveillance, prevention and control of rheumatic heart disease and invasive streptococcal diseases. Her work around this has helped to shape national policy in Australian and in New Zealand. Dr Oliver co-wrote the 2020 Australian guideline for prevention, diagnosis and management of acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease. She is an Investigator on two University of Otago studies - the GAS Pharyngitis & Skin Infection Study and the Rheumatic Fever Cost-Effectiveness Study. Dr Oliver has expertise in supervising student research, writing and assessing grant applications, and has published over 20 research articles in major scientific journals.
