Career Trajectory
Bio
I study the ecological and evolutionary dynamics of infectious disease in animal and human populations, with emphasis on the emergence of zoonotic pathogens – and the close parallels in the emergence of drug-resistant strains. My group develops mathematical, computational and statistical models as tools to identify general principles and maximize insights gained from hard-won data (which are often limited by challenging field conditions or scattered across isolated disciplines). We aim to link key mechanisms across host species, spatial scales, and disciplinary boundaries, with the long-term goal of advancing a holistic theory of pathogen emergence that can integrate diverse data streams and make useful contributions to assessing risk from potential emergence threats.
