James F. Leary is now Professor Emeritus of Purdue University where he was formerly the Endowed Professor of Nanomedicine. He was formerly a medical school professor in multiple basic science and clinical departments for 27 years first at the University of Rochester Medical School in Rochester, New York and then at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He has worked for over 45 years in the field of single-cell analysis by flow and image cytometry and is one of the pioneers of that field and is well known for his invention of high-speed flow cytometry and rare-cell analysis techniques. Starting in the year 2000, he was one of the early pioneers in the field of nanomedicine. He taught a highly popular course in Engineering Nanomedical Systems within the Wheldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University from 2007-2014. He has published more than 175 scientific papers and holds 10 issued US patents. He has been awarded a number of national and international awards for his scientific work. He is also a well-known invited speaker at many scientific conferences around the world. Dr. Leary is still professionally active and continues to give invited talks at national and international scientific conferences, serves on multiple editorial boards, and continues to work on new single-cell and nanomedicine technologies now in the laboratories of his own consulting and prototyping biotechnology company, Aurora Life Technologies, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he now lives and works.
