Bio
James Duchamp, the James Earl Copenhaver Professor of Chemistry, has taught at Emory & Henry College since 1994. Professor Duchamp is co-author of more than 30 peer-reviewed publications, three book chapters, and a patent. He is the 2011 Council for Advancement and Support of Education/Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Virginia Professor of the Year and also received the 2009 State Council of Higher Education in Virginia Outstanding Faculty Award. With funding from the Appalachian College Association (ACA) in 1998, Professor Duchamp began an ongoing collaboration with Harry Dorn at Virginia Tech on the synthesis, characterization, and medical applications of endohedral metallofullerenes and interactions of molecules characterized by dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). Professor Duchamp earned a B.A. in chemistry from Kalamazoo College and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Yale University. He pursued post-doctoral work in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Cornell University. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Council on Undergraduate Research, the National Science Teacher Association, the Electrochemical Society and the Virginia Academy of Sciences.
