个人简介
I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oxford's Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS). I will be starting as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in economics at the University of Liverpool Management School in September 2020. I received Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pittsburgh in August 2019. My main advisors were Prof. Osea Giuntella and Prof. Daniel Berkowitz.
Research areas: labor economics, crime, political economy, and health economics
My job market paper explores the origins and consequences of the Russian mafia (vory-v-zakone). The study uses a unique web scraped dataset containing detailed biographical information of more than 5,000 mafia leaders operating in 15 countries of the (former) Soviet Union between 1916-2017.
I also study the impact of immigration on local labor markets, natives' voting behavior, as well as the public health effects of a recent immigrant regularization program in the United States called the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Most recently, I have begun working on a project studying the resilience of the Russian mafia. The project employs a content analysis of 5,000+ leaders' nicknames.
