Bio
Middelburg’s research is at the interface of ecology, biogeochemistry and earth sciences. His interest ranges from streams via rivers, lakes, reservoirs, estuaries, shelf ecosystems to deep-sea environments and from the elucidation of nanoscale mechanisms to global scale budgeting. He aims to integrate observational, experimental and modeling approaches to advance our understanding of elemental cycling and ecosystem functioning.
