John Tuthill (S'86–M'87) was born in Sydney, Australia, on May 12, 1965. He received the B.E. degree from the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba, Australia, in 1987, and the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees from Curtin University of Technology, Bentley, Australia, in 1995 and 2000, respectively. In 1988, he was an Electronics Engineer with Hewlett-Packard Australia Ltd, Western Australia. In 1992, he joined Racal Electronics, Western Australia, as an Electronics Engineer, and in 1994, he joined the Australian Telecommunications Research Institute, Nedlands, Western Australia, as a Research Engineer, where he worked on array signal processing algorithms for active sonar applications. In 2000, he was a Research Fellow with the Telecommunications, Electronics and Networking (TEN) research group, University of Western Australia, Nedlands, where he worked on digital signal processing for wireless communications and high-speed digital design, and optoelectronics for high-data-rate optical communications systems. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow with the Western Australian Telecommunications Research Institute (WATRI), University of Western Australia, Nedlands. His research interests include digital signal processing applications in communications and acoustics, optical amplifier control systems, embedded real-time control, high-speed digital design, high-frequency effects in PCB interconnects, antenna array signal processing, and optimal and adaptive techniques and algorithms in signal processing.
