Bio
Through my scientific career to date I have developed the ability to work collaboratively with individuals from various scientific backgrounds as well as the experimental skills necessary to bring projects to completion. By taking an interdisciplinary approach to research I have expanded my knowledge in various fields including biology, biochemistry, and immunology providing a well-rounded basis for both basic science and therapeutic application. During my graduate training, I worked with animal models of T cell driven inflammation with a focus on down regulation of proinflammatory CD4+ T helper (Th) cell subsets. This experience provided insight into in vivo approaches to immunological research. Additionally, my background in Th cell regulation via lineage specific cytokines has provided a solid foundation for understanding the role that proinflammatory cytokines play in the maintenance of T regulatory (Treg) cell stability. Moreover, my work on mechanisms of immune cell differentiation and activation have impressed upon me the importance of both paracrine and autocrine cellular interactions. My scientific curiosity has led me to develop and optimize novel techniques during my time as an R&D intern as well as in my thesis advisor’s laboratory. This drive to expand upon my research skills will be paramount to my ability to move into novel and previously understudied lines of research.
