John P. Apruzese

John P. Apruzese received the B.S. degree in physics from Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA, in 1970, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Madison, WI, USA, in 1974. He was a National Science Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), Washington, DC, USA. He joined Science Applications International Corporation Reston, VA, USA. In 1982, he returned to NRL, where he was serving as a Consultant. He has made contributions to the sciences of high-power plasma radiation sources, theory and modeling of radiation transport, plasma diagnostics and spectroscopy, X-ray and infrared lasers, and active detection of special nuclear materials. Dr. Apruzese is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. He was a recipient of the 1999 Pure Science Award of the NRL Chapter of Sigma Xi for his major contributions to the physics of radiation transport and X-ray lasers. He was named an American Physical Society Distinguished Lecturer in Plasma Physics. In 2010, he was named Reviewer of the Year for the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer.
