Bio
My name is Ján Kopačka and I am currently the head of the Laboratory of Computational Solid Mechanics in the Department of Impact and Waves in Solids at the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences. I am also a lecturer at the Department of Mechanics and Materials, Faculty of Transportation Sciences, Czech Technical University in Prague. Our laboratory focuses on research and development of numerical methods for modeling, prediction and optimization of nonlinear multiscale and multiphysics structures produced by additive technologies. My research interests include nonlinear finite element analysis, computational contact mechanics, isogeometric analysis, and multiscale topology optimization. Both my thesis and dissertation won the Prof. Babuska Prize in Computer Science. I am grateful for the opportunity to complete a six-month internship at the Ann and H. J. Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences Center, University of Colorado Boulder, USA. I am proud and excited that the consortium we are part of has been awarded the prestigious Horizon Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks (DN) 2021 project. As a member of the research team, I will be involved in training new specialists in the development of innovative electrical machines using 3D multi-material printing and topology optimization.
