Bio
João. L. A. de Melo (S’10–M’17) was born in Pico Island, Azores-Portugal. He received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT-UNL), Lisbon, Portugal, in 2008 and 2010, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in continuous-time sigma-delta modulators (
$\Delta \Sigma $
Ms) using passive RC integrators from FCT-UNL in 2017. From 2002 to 2004, he was a Team Coordinator of sound installations and an Analyst of sound systems with Audium S.A., Portugal. From 2015 to 2016, he was with the Center for Technology and Systems, Instituto de Desenvolvimento de Novas Tecnologias, a research institute, working for a European project (PROTEUS) on the design of low-power
$\Delta \Sigma $
ADCs for IoT sensors’ interfaces. In 2016, he joined S3 Semiconductors (which was acquired by Adesto Technologies in 2018), Lisbon, where he is currently designing
$\Delta \Sigma $
ADCs for a wide range of applications, from sensors interfaces to WLAN products, and also PLLs for clock generation circuitry of high-speed SAR ADCs. His main research interests include energy- and area-efficient amplifiers-less delta-sigma modulators and optimization methodologies based on genetic algorithms.
