个人简介
Julie Brown qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the early 1990s and has worked for a number of years in both practice and industry until 2001, when she switched to, and then stayed, working within the public sector, predominantly in children’s social care. After completing her MBA through the Open University in 2010, Julie went on to commence her doctoral studies at the University of Plymouth, concluding with the successful award of Doctor of Philosophy in 2021. Julie’s research interests are centred around the control of work, particularly the relationship between managerial and professional control over the work of professionals within bureaucracies. Julie has presented findings from her research on the control of children’s social work at several conferences. As a qualified accountant with no social work background Julie’s focus has been on the way in which professionals and managers work together, not on the social work practice itself. Julie is a senior manager in in an organisation whose principal activity is children’s social work and so not a shared professional base with her own. The question of recurrent interest is how do the managers and the managed overcome the differences in authority derived from position and knowledge?
