Bio
Jed A. Hartings received the B.S. degree from the University of Notre Dame and the Ph.D. degree in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh. He then began his career in brain injury research at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, where he served as a U.S. Army Officer for eight years before returning to his home town of Cincinnati. He is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Neurosurgery, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He has co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications. His research is focused on mechanisms of brain lesion development, and monitoring of patients with traumatic brain injury and stroke. He co-founded the international Co-Operative Studies on Brain Injury Depolarizations and has characterized the detrimental effect of these brain tsunamis in promoting damage in both animal models and patients. He is a member of the National Neurotrauma Society, the Neurocritical Care Society, and the International Society for Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism. He is a recipient of multiple major grants from the Department of Defense, the Army’s Research and Development Achievement Award for Technical Excellence, the Meritorious Service Medal, and recognition as a Hero of Military Medicine, and was a Finalist in the Cincinnati Business Courier’s Health Care Heroes.
