His major research areas are mechanisms of fibroblast activation and fibrosis and osteoimmunology. His work has a strong translational focus and is aiming to develop novel therapeutic approaches with direct transfer from bench to bedside. He received several awards including the Warnery Anniversary Award of the Swiss Society of Rheumatology, the Young Investigator Award of the European League Against Rheumatism, the Career Support Award of Medicine of the Ernst Jung Foundation, and the European League Against Rheumatism Award. He served as editor for a number of rheumatological journals including Arthritis & Rheumatism, is member of the Faculty 1000 and is the head of the EUSTAR Basic Research Committee.
