个人简介
Dr. J. Gonzalo has been working in the fields of laser matter-interaction, laser processing & pulsed laser deposition (PLD) for more than 25 years. His PhD. (1992-95) was focused on the study of plasmas generated by laser ablation and its application to the synthesis of oxide thin films for optical and magnetic applications. Afterward, he spent 2 years (1996-97) as postdoctoral researcher at the Univ. of Hull (UK), where he pioneered the synthesis of liquid crystal thin films by PLD. In 1998, Dr. Gonzalo joined the Instituto de Optica (IO), where he holds the position of Research Scientist since 2006. There, He served as deputy director (2003-2008), and he is currently head of the Laser Processing & Synthesis Laboratory and Staff representative on the IO board. In addition, He is member of the Scientific Committee of the National Center of Accelerators (Univ. of Sevilla-Junta de Andalucía-CSIC, since 2004) and of the Optoelectronics Committee of the Spanish Optical Society (since 2013).
Dr. Gonzalo’s present research interest focuses on the design & synthesis of nanostructures containing either metal nanoparticles (NPs) or rare-earth (RE) ions to develop artificial nanostructures for sensing devices based on plasmonic effects, or light emitting components for optically active devices. This activity is funded both by European & National projects. He has led 1 European & 7 National projects. In addition, he has been member of the research team in 4 European & 11 National projects. The funding he has obtained to date has been more than 1.6 M€ (>.83 M€ in the case of projects led by him). He has participated 12 (4 led) international collaborative research projects. This, along with the fact that in >50% of his publications participate researchers from non-Spanish institutions reflects the high level of internationalization of his activity; which is reflected in 111 articles in JCR journals, 86 in Q1 (39 D1). They have more than 2700 citations, h-index= 31. Briefly, Dr. Gonzalo’s main Scientific-Technical achievements are:
• Determination of spatial confinement conditions of laser plasmas in the presence of a gas background & its effect on the expansion dynamics in PLD, J. Appl. Phys. 81, 951 (1997). Demonstration of the effect of energetic species present in laser generated plasmas on films deposited by PLD. J. Appl. Phys. 79, 8042 (1995), Phys. Rev. B 76, 035435 (2007).
• First synthesis of liquid-crystals thin films by PLD. Appl. Phys. Lett. 71, 2752 (1997).
• Synthesis of Nb-based heavy metal oxide thin film glasses by PLD & development of a model to understand their non-linear optical response. Appl. Phys. Lett. 90, 251907 (2007), J. Appl. Phys. 110, 023522 (2011).
• First published nucleation of Er doped TeO2-ZnO-ZnF2 oxyfluoride glass-ceramics. J. Eur. Cer. Soc. 34, 3959 (2014).
• New concepts for the synthesis of nanostructures by PLD, which allowed the demonstration of near electric field effects in the optical response of oriented metallic nanocolumns (Nano Letters 6, 2037 (2006)); the transfer of EM excitation from Ag NPs to RE ions, (Nanophotonics 10, 3995 (2021)) & the synthesis of photonic nanostructures showing reversible optical modulation (Nano Letters 15, 2633 (2015)) or behaving as polarizing mirrors (Adv. Opt. Mat. 8, 2000321 (2020).
These achievements have been the basis for collaborations with the industry. He has led 2 technological development contracts in the last 10 years (Funding >170 k€), one of which led to the development of sensors to detect organic pollutants in fresh water (PCT/IB2018/060065, https://saftra-photonics.org/product/).
In addition to his research, his activity in science outreach has been intense. Among them stand out:
• Participation in the Week of Science & Technology of the Comunidad de Madrid (Since 2013).
• Divulgation workshops & conferences (>80 sessions) including the Week of Science & Technology in Andalucía (Casa de la Ciencia de Sevilla) and in Primary & Secondary Schools of the Comunidad de Madrid (Since 2015).
• Participation in Ciudad-Ciencia (CSIC-Obra social “La Caixa”) & Ciencia en el Barrio (CSIC) projects.
• Organizer of outreach activities commemorative of the International Year of Light at Educational Centers of the Comunidad de Madrid and at La Casa Encendida, Madrid (2015).
• Coeditor of the book: “La luz. Ciencia y tecnología”. Colección Divulgación. (CSIC y Catarata, 2015) ISBN: 978-84-00-09922-0.
To conclude, His activity has been devoted too to the formation of researchers: He has supervised 2 Post-docs, and 6 PhD. Thesis, all of them were awarded with the maximum mark (Sobresaliente cum laude, Unanimous decision), and 3 of them got the European Mention. He has supervised 3 Master students and Dr. Gonzalo has participated as lecturer in Master, PhD. & international specialization courses.
