个人简介
I was awarded the PhD degree by the University of Exeter (UK) in 2002 based on density functional theoretical calculations of defects in semiconductors. Among the publications that resulted from that work I single out a review on oxygen defects in silicon and germanium, which as been cited about 245 times by 2022 (source: Scopus).
Along my career as an independent researcher I was a Post-Doctoral Researcher (2002) and Assistant Professor (2004) at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, as well as a Ciencia2007 Assistant Researcher (2007) and "Investigator FCT" (2013) at the I3N Associated Laboratory (University of Aveiro, Portugal).
Presently I work as a full-time Principal Researcher, leading a research line (Ab-Initio Materials Modeling) within a group of theoretical physicists at the I3N Associated Laboratory. I have coordinated several funded projects, and often been the Theory Leader on projects coordinated by experimentalists. I have been responsible for establishing collaboration ties, for writing down proposals, and finding funds to maintain a local HPC infrastructure for the group. I have also been the supervisor of several undergraduate students, PhD candidates and Post-Doctoral Fellows. My research interests are on the electrical, magnetic and optical properties of defects in solids, surfaces and nanostructures by means of atomistic and electronic structure calculations.
