Ivanka Milenkovic, the biologist, is the CEO and founder of EKOFUNGI Ltd. Company were founded to become a bridge between scientific investigation and daily practice. Based on the scientific work and experience accumulated over 25 years of cooperation with the Zero Emission Research Initiative, (Japan,1996), she created functional circular economy production, symbolically named WASTE to TASTE, a unique circular economy company in South-East Europe (OECD estimation).
In 2012, she created innovative technology for processing cellulose waste into the substrata for high-quality mushroom production. Innovative technology, which saves 95% of the energy in comparison with mainstream and decreases CO2 emission up to zero, had paved the way for the development of the new stream in the mushroom business, orientated towards small entrepreneurship, social interaction, gender equity strengthens as it is applicable under all sorts of conditions, most often limited by different social and economic factors.
Within the last 10 years, EKOFUNGISCHOOL organised based on the “open source” principle, had been attended by more than 150 students from all around the world who later on, successfully developed their small businesses in their regions or applied technology in local communities, mainly in Africa, where thousands of ladies for a first time in life have created personal income and own food for their children.
Ivanka Milenkovic and Ekofungi collaborate with scientific institutions all around the world and also IM provides significant support and expertise to researchers but also to SMEs who want to start a small business based on a sustainable way of activities,
IM is the author of the specific growing technology which is applicable globally. Apart from wide application in urban farming, technology is used as a tool for poverty and hunger reduction in the poorest African regions where more than 10.000 women are trained to produce high-quality food.
IM is awarded Success Flower recognition in 2014, AUREA recognition for innovation in 2014, and many others.
