Isabelle Ruin

Isabelle Ruin was born in 1973 in the French Alps. She received the M. S. degree in geotechnology and the Dr.Phil. degree in human geography from the Joseph Fourier University, Grenoble, France, in 1997 and 2007, respectively. She is currently an Advanced Study Program Post-Doctoral Fellow with the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), Boulder, CO. Before starting the Ph.D. program in 2004, she worked four years as an Environmental Project Engineer in nonprofit organizations specialized in environmental education and outreach in France. Since 2004, she has taught cross-disciplinary courses and lectures in both France and the United States to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students with various backgrounds: forecasters, hydrologists, geography and engineering students. Her field of interest is related to human–environment interactions in the context of severe weather events and especially flash floods. Her approach relies on using both qualitative and quantitative methods to integrate geophysical and social data in the space and time dimensions.
