Bio
Isabel Martínez-Espejo Zaragoza is a research fellow at ASTRO (Applicazioni Scientifiche Topografiche per il Rilievo Operativo – Scientific Applications for Topographic Surveying Operation) Laboratory, DICI – Università di Pisa.
She was born in Murcia, Spain, in 1987 and received her first degree in "Technical Architecture" (2009) at Cartagena Polytechnic University, in Spain. She took her master degree in Architectonical Heritage Conservation at Valencia Polytechnic University (2010) and the second master degree Master Itinerante in “Museografia, Architettura e Archeologia, Progettazione Strategica e Gestione Innovativa del Patrimonio Archeologico” (Itinerant Master in ‘Museography, Architescture and Archaeology, Strategic Design and Innovative Archaelogical Heritage Management’), issued by “Accademia Adrianea di Architettura e Archeologia Onlus” (2012). She received her first PhD Degree in “Clarifications for integrated 3D surveys with advanced tools, applied to knowledge and conservation of architectural heritage” in the program of Architecture, Construction, Urban and Landscape from Valencia Polytechnic University (2014). She received her second PhD in “International doctorate in civil and environmental engineering (ciclo XXIX)” at Florence University, Italy (2017).
Her main research deals with 3D metric modeling. Her goals are to carry out the testing of innovative geomatic techniques (Terrestrial Laser Scanning and Photogrammetry, both classical and Structure from Motion) for the generation of 3D metric models at different scales and degrees of precision. She is conducting an evaluation of these methods under the aspect of quality and integration. Furthermore, she aims to deeply understand how post-processing impacts on the final quality of the models. In general, she produces model in which laser scanning is used to create high-resolution 3D models, while photogrammetry aims to obtain high- resolution textures. Those models are useful to solve engineering issues and to provide support to restorers.
