Bio
Born 1960 in Berlin, grew up in Austria, Nigeria, Germany, completed high school in Germany in 1980, learned hand bookbinding (journeyman's certificate 1984).
Started in conservation as an intern (before the establishment of paper conservation education programs) at German museums (1984–88) and at a private practice and as exhibition conservator at the Fridericianum in Kassel (1987–88, including the documenta 8).
Went to the USA (1988–2004) initially for internships at different museums (Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft funding, 1988–89), followed by a research grant as recipient of a Getty Senior Fellowhip at the Art Conservation Department at Buffalo State College (1990–91); stayed at the Art Conservation Department initially as visiting lecturer (1992–94), followed by permanent positions first as assistant (1998) and then associate tenured professor (1998–2004).
Returned to Germany for the position as chief conservator, Kupferstichkabinett, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (2005–08). In 2008, accepted call as professor and head of the programme Conservation of Works of Art on Paper, Archives and Library Materials at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design.
