Dr Ioannis N. Athanasiadis is an Assistant Professor with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Dept. of Democritus University of Thrace, in Xanthi, Greece. His areas of expertise include software engineering, intelligent information systems, environmental informatics, software agents, decision support systems, knowledge engineering, metadata and ontologies and machine learning.

Dr Athanasiadis lectures in both the undergraduate and graduate program of his department. Currently, he is the main instructor of Object Oriented Programming, Principles of Programming Languages and Software Engineering modules.

During the period 2005-2010, he was a researcher with the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA), in Lugano, Switzerland, and taught in the MSc program of the Faculty of Informatics, University of Lugano. He was also affiliated with the Ecoinformatics Collaboratory at the University of Vermont, USA, and a founding member of the Intelligent Systems and Software Engineering Lab at the Informatics and Telematics Institute, CERTH, in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Ioannis holds a Dipl.Eng (MSc) and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, both from theAristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is a Senior Member of ACM, member of iEMSs, and a licensed professional engineer with the Technical Chamber of Greece.
