Indrajit is working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate since July 2020 in the labs of Prof. Shuming Nie (BIOE) and Prof. Viktor Gruev (ECE) at The Grainger College of Engineering. He leads an effort by leveraging biomimetic nanotechnology and a fundamental understanding of nano-bio interactions to develop nanoparticle-based sensors for early diagnosis of blood-related disorders and image-guided cancer interventions, topics of great importance at the frontiers of engineering and medicine. Indrajit received his Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) from the Department of Bioengineering in The Grainger College of Engineering. He worked under the advisement of Prof. Dipanjan Pan and his research focused on developing and optimizing the synthesis and optical properties of novel nanoparticles probes, called Carbon Dots and use them for a wide range of biological applications including cellular labeling, bioimaging, biosensors, diagnostics, and intracellular trafficking. Indrajit also earned his M.S. degree in Bioengineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign following his B.E. degree in Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science from Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology, Shibpur, India. Indrajit's research interests lie at the intersection of bioengineering, medicine and chemistry. Indrajit has a strong background on nanomaterial synthesis, design and characterization as well as their biological evaluations acquired from both during his Ph.D.as well as undergraduate research experiences, which allows him to creatively approach any given problem.
