Bio
Inês F. A. Mariz was graduated in 2003 in Chemical Engineering at Instituto Politécnico de Bragança. She carried out his PhD in Applied Chemistry and Polymeric Materials at the University of the Basque Country under the guidance of Professors José Ramón Leiza and José Carlos de la Cal. Her research was done within the Industrial Liaison Program with international industrial companies focusing on the polymerization in aqueous media for water-borne paints. To complement her research, she spent three months at Akzo Nobel International Paints (NewCastle, UK).
In 2012, she was awarded a Post-doctoral grant from the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia to develop photochromic materials activated by two-photon excitation for high density 3D optical data storage devices. This research work was done at the group of Optical Multifunctional Materials of CQFM at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) with the guidance of Professor José Martinho and Dra. Ermelinda Maçôas. That challenging work implicate a multidisciplinary team that worked in a loop process including synthesis of the new molecules (by a national and/or international organic chemistry group) followed by photochemical and photophysical characterization, optimization and final application, where she was involved. In addition to the goals of her post-doctoral project, she was involved in an extensive work on the tailoring Two Photon Absorption (TPA) chromophores for application as fluorescent markers in bioimaging. She explored different families of compounds with different architectures, from small molecules like indoloquinolines with antimalarial activity to triazine based polymers and nanoparticles.
In November 2018 she was awarded a research position at the same group, that is now integrated in Centro de Quimica Estrutural (CQE) at IST, to developing new materials with outstanding TPA properties for applications in 3D data Storage, 3D-bioimaging and theragnostic. She is also interested in the tools needed to address them: steady-state and time resolved optical spectroscopy, two-photon fluorescence microscopy, nanoparticles polymerization.
She published a total of 20 original articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 14 in the last 5 years. Two of them were selected to journal cover. Almost all journals belong to quartile Q1 in the category with an average impact factor of 4.8. Her h-index is 9 with a mean citation per article of 8.4 (Source: Web of Science™, 2/2019). She also presented several oral and poster communications in national and international conferences. She participated as team member in several research projects with national and international collaborations. She has also been involved in the supervision of master and PhD students.
In addition, she was reviewer for international journals. She was also involved in the organization of science dissemination activities such as conferences and science fairs. Since 2013 she suspended their activities two times for maternity licenses.
