个人简介
Inês Conde is graduated in Biochemistry by the Faculty of Sciences of Porto University since 2019. During her bachelors degree, she developed her curricular internship entitled Characterization of the Cancer Stem Cell Phenotype of Breast Cancer Brain Metastasis at the Epithelial Interactions in Cancer group at i3S, under the supervision of Joana Paredes and Ana Ribeiro, which has been classified with 19/20 points. In 2019, Inês enrolled in the masters program in Molecular Medicine and Oncology from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto University, where she worked as a volunteer in an extra-curricular internship at Joana Paredes laboratory. During 2020/2021, Inês developed her masters thesis entitled Unravelling a cancer stem cell signature associated with breast cancer metastatic organotropism, under Joana Paredes and Ana Ribeiros supervision and which was classified with 19/20 points. During this time, Inês acquired expertise in several functional assays (mammosphere forming efficiency, limiting-dilution assay, invasion, in vivo CAM model) and cellular and molecular techniques (cell culture, western blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence). Her work contributed to the publication of two manuscripts for the: i) definition of a brain breast cancer stem cell signature that significantly predicts a worse prognosis for BC patients (PMID33182375) and ii) development of a novel in vivo tool to study cancer stem cells, using a panel of metastatic BC cells (PMID33396951). Of note, Inês presented this work in national and international meetings, such as Porto Cancer Meeting 2021, ASPIC/ASEICA 2021, ENJIO-LPCC 2022. Also, Inês was selected for oral presentation in the IJUP 2021 (Investigação Jovem da U.Porto), where she could share her latest data on CSC and BC metastasis. Importantly, her masters project was awarded with one of the 14 Bolsas de Investigação em Oncologia LPCC-NRN 2021. Within this project, Inês identified several breast CSC biomarkers associated with breast cancer metastatic organotropism. Currently, Inês is dissecting the role of a poorly explored CSC protein, PGRMC1, as a potential CSC biomarker associated with breast cancer metastasis. Of note, this work was recently awarded, one more time, with the LPCC-NRN Grants 2022. Due to Inês focus on this topic, she has recently published her first author manuscript, on Breast Cancer Stem Cell Membrane Biomarkers: Therapy Targeting and Clinical Implications (PMID35326385). Currently, Inês is a research fellow at the recently formed i3S Cancer Metastasis group and is focused on studying the potential of PGRMC1 as a CSC biomarker associated with BC metastasis. Her long-term goal is to discover new prognostic biomarkers for metastatic BC and her research interests include basal-like BC, cancer metastasis, as well as the identification of potential prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the benefit of BC patients. In summary, during her scientific career, Inês track record includes 2 original papers as co-author (PMID33396951, PMID33182375) and a review manuscript as first author (Conde et al. Cells, 2022 PMID35326385) in peer-reviewed international journals. Moreover, she presented her work in 5 national and international conferences (1 oral and 4 poster communications) and contributed to the work presented in other 9 meetings.
