Dr. Imdad has completed Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Dr. Delin Hong (Professor), State Key Laboratory of Crop Genetics and Germplasm Enhancement, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, China in 2017. During his PhD, Dr. Imdad gained rich experience in molecular plant breeding, specifically improving heterotic performances of rice by molecular genotyping of important yield contributing traits. Also explored genetic diversities in crop genomes by discovery of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using Next generation sequencing (NGS) techniques. Moreover, utilizing the sequence variations within rice genome for identification of alleles/QTLs and genes of general combining ability traits enhancement, through marker-trait association analysis.
Along with PhD, Dr. Imdad contributed to several collaborative research projects. This enabled him to learn, practice modern plant breeding skills and apply innovative methodologies. He had experience of working with a diverse group of people from different backgrounds and this should provide essential skills of leadership, teamwork and time management. His outstanding scientific performance have been recognized by prestigious awards. During his PhD, He published in highly regarded international journals including Pedosphere, Frontiers in plant science, Agronomy and AoB Plants.
Dr. Imdad pursued his Postdoctoral research work (2018-2020) in the major of Environmental Biotechnology, Agricultural Resources Research, Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shijiazhuang, China. In his two-year postdoctoral research fellowship, he identified key genomic regions underpinning critical traits in wheat for tolerance to heavy metal (Cadmium) stresses.
